You may have noticed that except everyone can access and in-app authentication, all learners’ access options require a sign-up process which includes emails being sent to learners.

These emails are sent from the domain “minicoursegenerator.com,” as shown in the image below.

If you’re looking to customize this email address, good news! With a little help from external tools, you can use your domain to send emails from.

Besides, the process will be fully automated, so you don’t have to manually send emails.

Let’s get started.

Key Requirements

Before diving in, make sure you have the following:

  • Your own domain, such as knowup.io.
  • A Zapier or Make account. The automation tool will help us connect Mini Course Generator to an email marketing application and create a workflow. Keep in mind that since this automation involves four events, you’ll need a paid plan in Zapier. If you prefer, you can use Make instead. While the interface is different, the process stays the same.
  • An email marketing tool to send emails through such as Mailchimp, Mailerlite, etc. Double-check that the email marketing tool you pick works with the automation tool you choose.
  • A Pro plan subscription in Mini Course Generator, as the automation requires the “enable access to specific learners” setting.

Prep Work

Take these steps first:

How to Set Up the Automation

For this guide, we’ll use Zapier as the automation tool and Mailchimp as the email marketing tool.

The automation will have four events:

  • New Learner in learner group – this is the trigger that kicks off the automation.
    • Create a Zap by clicking the create button on top left end of Zapier dashboard.

    • For the first event of automation, choose Mini Course Generator as the application.

    • Choose New Learner as the trigger event and connect your Mini Course Generator account. After you’re done with this, click Continue and move on to Configure.

    • Choose the collection you want to automate, click Continue, and test the first event.

    • After testing, choose a learner record and continue.

  • Add Learner – generates the verification link.
    • Choose Mini Course Generator application for the second event, and the event Add Learner.

    • Configure the Add Learner event as shown below. Choose the collection you want to automate and any course in the collection, set “False” for send email, collect email and name data from the first event. When you’re done, click continue to proceed to test. Test the second event and continue.

  • Create an email – the email includes the verification link.
    • For the third step of the automation, choose Mailchimp as application and create campaign as event for the third step. Connect your Mailchimp account to Zapier. When you’re done, click continue to configure this step.

    • Configure your email campaign. Make sure to include the dynamic attribute magic link in the email body, otherwise the learners won’t be able to access the content. When you’re done, test the third step and proceed.

  • Send the email – deliver the email to the learner’s address.
    • Choose Mailchimp as application for the fourth step and Send Campaign as event. Configure this step to send the campaign created in the third step, by using the campaign ID data dynamic attribute.

    • The automation should look as shown in the image below. Click Publish to make the automation go live.

And you’re done! Setting this up is straightforward and offers a great advantage: customization. By using your own domain and email tool, you create a seamless and branded experience for your learners. This simple yet powerful approach will make your mini-courses feel more professional and personalized.

We all know that content is the king on YouTube to get more subscribers. The depth, quality, and relevance to the audience are the critical determinants for the performance of your YouTube channel.

Ok, these are no-brainers. Yet, what if you want to do more and move beyond creating great videos? In addition to video quality, is there anything else that can help get more subscribers? How to build a robust relationship with a visitor who landed on your video after a search?

We think the answer is simple, and the answer is the same for almost anything in marketing: Create more engagement.

Interacting and bonding with your audience is the key to successful digital branding. When it comes to being a YouTuber, the scenario is no different: interact more to create a more robust engagement with visitors.

Then let’s ask the big question: how can you create more interaction and engagement on YouTube, in which you present static videos?

It is known that interactive videos get far more successful than the ones based on one-way communication. It’d be better if your content could get out of the box, involve your audience, and call them into action.

It is possible to add interactivity to a video by cards; however, this feature offers only limited interaction. They are just links for your other videos or subscription action buttons for your channel.

Most YouTubers look for “real” engagement boosters to create more organic bonds with their audience than just giving links to other videos. The most common tactic is to invite users to leave a comment on your video, but you don’t have to limit your potential to that.

Going beyond links and comments

The “description” area is a generally overlooked gem. Although it is mainly used for YouTube SEO, it has the potential to build engagement with video viewers via additional materials placed there that perfectly complement the video.

Depending on the video type and your marketing needs, supplementary materials can include reinforcement questions, surveys, additional paid mini-courses, and gamification elements.

You can use your mini-courses to increase your YouTube channel’s interactivity, engagement performance, and even SEO ranking by increasing the view duration and completion rates of your videos. Here are some creative use cases for improving engagement performance on and beyond YouTube!

(1) Use quizzes related to your video that comes with an award.

Give perks to only those who answer all quiz questions correctly.

You can use quizzes to increase the view duration and engagement of your YouTube video by hiding the answers to the questions in the video. To complete a quiz successfully, one needs to watch your video without skipping fast since answers are placed in different parts.

To make this work, give bonuses and gifts to people who answer all the questions correctly. It is possible to display a special message at the end of your quiz only for those who achieved 100% accuracy. If a user could not succeed in answering all of them correctly, you can customize the message and direct them to watch the video again.

For the achievers, you can promote an e-book, give away a digital product, hand out discount coupons that can be used on your website, or even give access to an unlisted special video.

(2) Grow your email list with gated content that can be passed by email.

Collect emails through a sign-up wall placed before the supplementary material, like a mini-course related to your video.

You may want to increase interaction points with your audience besides YouTube, like sending newsletters. Not only does YouTube not provide subscribers’ emails, but also just asking for emails with form links or putting subscribe CTA’s will never do good; since this does not provide any organic connection or a willingness to share emails.

Alternatively, you can use additional, exclusive content to attract people. Prepare a mini-course with additional supplementary content related to your video and promote this additional micro-content within your video content. Make sure to put a sign-up wall at the beginning of your mini-course, so users can access the mini-course only by entering their emails.

By the way, you can use integrations to automate subscriptions to your newsletter platform like Mailchimp, Mailerlite, etc., through webhooks. Learn more.

(3) Show personalized content for the next video.

Present personalized suggestions for the following video offer, depending on the viewer’s interests & knowledge level.

If you create videos in which you share technical skills and know-how, it’d be great to add a reinforcement mini-course that includes quiz questions and key takeaways. Not only will it make your audience learn better, but also you can direct users to different video paths depending on their knowledge. For instance, suppose you have added a mini-course that includes 7 questions. You can direct your audience to video A if they have less than 2 correct answers, to video B if they have 3-6 answers, and direct to video C if they answer all the questions correctly.

Conditional completion card is a great way to offer such performance-based suggestions. To learn more about customizing the end of a mini-course, click here.

(4) Earn extra few bucks through an additional material.

Get paid for additional small complimentary micro-content.

You can make money on YouTube in many ways. Besides ads, the platform has published new features like paid channel membership, merch shelf, etc. These features have one thing in common: joining a privileged group with access to exclusive content. Your mini-course is just another great tool to provide this experience.

You can prepare a mini-course that will include additional material in a complementary way to assist your video take-aways. Users who wish to get more into the subject will pay small amounts like $1 or $2, etc. to access it.

As Mini Course Generator has Stripe integration, you can easily accept payment for your work with no extra commission cut from MCG. To learn more about accepting payment with Stripe, check out this tutorial.

(5) Offer discounts to whom deserves it.

Share a password inside the video and reward those who learn it by discounts on your exclusive offers.

As explained above, adding a quiz in your mini-course and displaying conditional messages depending on the user’s performance can be done easily with Mini Course Generator. You can give bonuses to the users who answer all the questions correctly.

However, you may think that watching your whole video is enough to be rewarded. In this case, you can keep it even more straightforward and add a password protection card at the beginning of your mini-course.

This card will be followed by another card where you display a discount code to be used on your sales website. You can hide the password in your video to make sure that users need to watch your video first to get the discount.

You can easily prepare mini-courses to execute these use-cases with various card types.

Sign-up wall, pay-wall, and password protection wall mentioned above are special content card types that can be used as gateways. These gateway cards enable you to gate access partially or wholly to content, as they can be placed in the beginning or midst of your mini-course. Click here to learn more.

In brief, Mini Course Generator’s versatile nature, with its simplicity and ease of use, offers a lot for YouTubers looking forward to achieving more engagement and gaining more subscribers with less effort. You can pick one of the above use cases or craft them according to your marketing needs to benefit from a more engaging approach. Click here to explore and learn more about the use cases MCG offers.

Suppose you use your mini-course to ask questions to your learners, and you keep their answers in a report. If you would like this report to be updated automatically whenever someone completes your mini-course, this is for you.

Actually, Mini Course Generator provides an analytics report in .xls form for each of your mini-courses. This report includes all the answers your learners gave to each question in your mini-course.

You can download this report manually from the edit screen of your mini-course:

You can also download this report by clicking on the “Analytics” button of the mini-course on your admin dashboard:

However, if you do not want to download a report manually to see new data, you can use an automation that will update your spreadsheet instead. It is possible to integrate your mini-course with a Google spreadsheet using a webhook you will create on Pipedream.

Pipedream is a tool for creating webhooks for free. If you do not have an account, create one from their website.

You can create “workflows” in Pipedream. A workflow represents an automated process that involves one or more applications. For your purpose, it is possible to create a workflow that will get your learners’ answers from a mini-course you choose and add those answers as a row on a Google spreadsheet you select. Let’s get started.

Create a workflow by clicking on the New workflow button.

Change the name of your workflow and its settings on this pop-up. Settings change the amount of the credits spent.

You can select a “trigger” now. Choose “HTTP / Webhook”.

Then, pick “New Requests”.

In the upcoming window, leave the default settings as they are and click on “Save and continue.”

Pipedream will generate a custom webhook URL for you and represent it as follows. Copy this webhook URL.

Go back to Mini Course Generator, open your mini-course editor screen, and click on the settings icon. Select “Webhook” tab and paste the webhook URL in the text box. Choose “Course Finish” and then click on “Save.”

Here comes the part where you test this webhook. Preview and complete your mini-course to create a testing record for Pipedream. Then, head back to Pipedream. Click on “Select Event”. The trial you made will be visible there; select “POST” as follows.

Your test answers on your mini-course will be sent to Pipedream. You can view the related data listed according to card ID under event>body>cards.

You can view the data that belong to a card by clicking on its ID. Your test answers will be visible there as such. Click on “Continue”.

Then, in the upcoming window, choose “Add Single Row to Google Sheets”.

In the upcoming window, you will need to connect your Google account. If you do not have one, you can sign up.

After you sign in to your Google account, to complete your workflow, you need to authorize Pipedream to see, edit, create, and delete all of your Google Drive files. Then, click on “Continue”.

After you connect your Google account, you can select a spreadsheet. All spreadsheets present in your Google account will appear in the options. If you do not have a spreadsheet, you can create one from here.

You can name your spreadsheet from the upper left corner as follows.

On Pipedream, select the spreadsheet into which your mini-course data will be integrated in “Spreadsheet” box. It is possible to target a specific sheet on your spreadsheet in the “Worksheet ID” box. If you do not have a header row in your spreadsheet, you should pick “False” in the following field. If you do, then you can pick “True”.

For the sake of this article, we have a mini-course with 1 single choice survey card, 4 quiz questions with single correct answer, and 1 open-ended feedback card. And we collect the email address data of the learner.

Therefore, we put headers on the first row as follows: “Username, Coffee Preference, Quiz 1, Quiz 2, Quiz 3, Quiz 4, First cup of coffee”.

After choosing “True” for first row of sheet having headers, our headers appear as shown in the video below.

Watch the video below to see how you pick your data.

👀 If your collection learners access setting is “Everyone can access”, email address data cannot be collected. Instead, a random ID is generated for each learner.

After you test the workflow, go to your spreadsheet and check if the data is added to your report.

Go back to Pipedream. You can check to what range of your spreadsheet the data is added. Click on “Deploy”.

Congratulations, you are done!

Reminders

  • If your quiz cards are located in the midst of your mini-course and you would like to add a new row to your spreadsheet when someone answered these cards, even if they did not complete the whole mini-course, you can choose “card end” in the webhook settings. Choosing card end will send information to Pipedream at the completion of each and every card, as opposed to course finish sending all information at the completion of the mini-course.

Note: In this scenario, for each card answered, you will get another row added to your spreadsheet, which can be drudging.

  • It is recommended to choose either “Card End” or “Course Finish” in the webhook settings. Choosing both may complicate the results.
  • If you definitely need an answer to a question, it is best to make that question mandatory; so that your learners cannot proceed without answering that question. Click on the settings icon located at the top right of your question card, and make sure that the card is mandatory.

  • Pipedream will currently let you use up to 10 credits per day for free. However, you need to proceed with a premium plan for more credits.
  • An alternative tool to Pipedream is Zapier. It is a well-known tool for webhooks. Additionally, Zapier is fully integrated with Mini Course Generator, allowing more options than what our webhook provides. You can check out their website for detailed information. Check our guide on exporting email address data using Zapier.
  • An alternative tool to Pipedream is Make. It is a well-known tool for webhooks. Additionally, Make is fully integrated with Mini Course Generator, allowing more options than what our webhook provides. You can check out their website for detailed information. Check our guide on how to certificate your learners using Certopus through Make.

If you use your mini-course for lead generation, such as collecting contact information from your learners, and you want to know immediately when they complete a mini course, this is for you.

Actually, you can automate this process directly on Mini Course Generator. With a specific option in the settings, you can receive all answers of a learner upon course completion. Learn more.

However, if you would like to customize the notification e-mails, you can construct this process manually by using Pipedream. Pipedream is a tool for creating webhooks for free. If you do not have an account, create one from their website.

You can create “workflows” in Pipedream. A workflow represents an automated process that involves one or more applications. For your purpose, it is possible to create a workflow that will get your learners’ answers from a mini-course you choose and e-mail those answers to you.

Create a workflow by clicking on the “New workflow” button.

Change the name of your workflow and its settings on this pop-up. Settings change the amount of the credits spent.

You can select a “trigger” now. Choose “HTTP / Webhook”.

Then, pick “New Requests”.

In the upcoming window, leave the default settings as they are and click on “Save and continue”.

Pipedream will generate a custom webhook URL for you and represent it as follows. Copy this webhook URL.

Go back to Mini Course Generator, open your mini-course editor screen, and click on the settings icon. Select “Webhook” tab and paste the webhook URL in the text box. Choose “Course Finish” and then click on “Save”.

You can view the related data listed according to card ID under event > body > cards.

You can view the data that belong to a card by clicking its ID. Your test answers will be visible there as such. Click on “Continue”.

👀If your collection learners access setting is “Everyone can access”, email address data cannot be collected. Instead, a random ID is generated for each learner.

Then, in the upcoming window, select “Email” as application and “Send Yourself an Email” as action.

On the next step, you can write down the format of the “Subject” and “Text” of the e-mail you will receive, as you wish.

It is possible to customize the subject of the e-mail with each learner’s input separately. In other words, when a learner completes a course, you can see an input specific to them in the e-mail subject. For an exemplary use of the subject and text boxes, watch the video below.

For a customized HTML view in your mail text, you can fill the optional “HTML” field instead of “Text”.

When you fill the “Subject” and “Text” fields, click on “Test” to send the test e-mail. Then, check your mailbox. The e-mail you receive should look like this:

Finally, go back to Pipedream and click on “Deploy” button to make your workflow go live.

Congratulations, you are done!

Suppose you use your mini-course for lead generation, such as collecting contact information from your learners for e-mail marketing. If you want to add them to your mailing list when they complete a mini course, this is for you.

It is possible for your learners to subscribe to your mailing list through Mini Course Generator and you can automate this process by using Pipedream and Mailerlite. To do this, you need to ask for email addresses of your learners in Mini Course Generator. You can do it by turning on double opt-in for your collection’s learners’ access setting. By turning on double opt-in, you ensure that your learners have to provide and verify their email address before they access your collection of mini-courses. Check here for more information on double opt-in access setting.

Before you proceed, it is best to have a Mailerlite account. Mailerlite is a mailing tool that has a free plan, used mainly for e-mail marketing. You can visit their website for detailed information. If you do not have an account, sign up.

Go back to Pipedream. In the upcoming window, select Mailerlite as application and “Create Subscriber” as action.

Connect your Mailerlite account to Pipedream. In the upcoming window, you need to enter your Mailerlite account’s API address. If you do not know how to get it, click “here” in the window and Pipedream directs you to it. Copy and paste the API key in the related field and click “Save”.

After you connect your account, find “uniqueId” data from Mini Course Generator and select it for the Email box. Choosing this data will allow Mailerlite to get the email address of your learner and add it to your subscribers.

If your collection learners access setting is “Everyone can access”, email address data cannot be collected. Instead, a random uniqueId is generated for each learner.

Now, click on “Test” to see if the automation works.

When the test is completed, go back to Mailerlite and check if the test is successful. You should see the newly added e-mail address in your Subscribers as shown in the image below.

Finally, go back to Pipedream and click on “Deploy” button to make your workflow go live.

Congratulations, you are done!

Reminders

If you’d like to get the email address of the learner when they complete a card, even if they do not complete the mini-course, choose “card end” in the webhook settings. Choosing card end will send information to Pipedream at the completion of each and every card, as opposed course finish sending all information at the completion of the mini-course.

Note: In this scenario, for each card completed, Pipedream will try to add the learner’s email address to your subscriber list, which can be drudging.

It is recommended to choose either “Card End” or “Course Finish” in the webhook settings. Choosing both may complicate the results.

Pipedream will currently let you use up to 10 credits per day for free. However, you need to proceed with a premium plan for more credits.

An alternative tool to Pipedream is Zapier. It is a well-known tool for webhooks. Additionally, Zapier is fully integrated with Mini Course Generator, allowing more options than what our webhook provides. You can check out their website for detailed information. Check our guide on exporting email address data using Zapier.

An alternative tool to Pipedream is Make. It is a well-known tool for webhooks. Additionally, Make is fully integrated with Mini Course Generator, allowing more options than what our webhook provides. You can check out their website for detailed information. Check our guide on how to certificate your learners using Certopus through Make.

Mailerlite will currently let you have up to 1,000 subscribers for free. However, you need to proceed with a premium plan for more.

Suppose you use your mini-courses for lead generation, such as collecting contact information from your learners for e-mail marketing. If you want to add them to your mailing list when they complete a mini course or a collection, this is for you.

It is possible for your learners to subscribe to your mailing list through Mini Course Generator and you can automate this process by using Zapier and Mailchimp. To do this, you need to ask for email addresses of your learners in Mini Course Generator. You can do it by using the learners’ access settings of double opt-in, pay-wall or enable access to specific learners. The double opt-in access setting is especially useful for lead generation. By turning on double opt-in, you ensure that your learners have to provide and verify their email address before they access your collection of mini-courses. Check here for further information.

👀 If your collection’s learners’ access setting is everyone can access, email address and name data cannot be collected. Instead, a random ID is generated to store learner data.

Zapier is a tool for creating automations. If you do not have an account, create one from their website. We are fully integrated with Zapier, which means there are many possibilities of automation scenarios you can set up.

You can create “zaps” in Zapier. A zap represents an automated workflow that involves one or more steps. In our case, it is possible to create a zap that will collect learners’ email address data from Mini Course Generator and add them to your mailing list via Mailchimp. Let’s get started.

Setting up your Automation

On Zapier dashboard, click on “Create” on top left end and create a Zap.

Click on trigger and choose Mini Course Generator for your application.

You can choose either to automate collecting email address data when a mini-course is completed, or when a collection is completed. Click on trigger event and choose whichever is applicable.

đź’ˇ To be able to choose “Course Collection Completed” for trigger event, your collection learners’ access setting should be double opt-in, pay-wall or enable access to specific learners.

Connect your Mini Course Generator account to Zapier, or choose from previously connected accounts.

Select mini-course or collection to collect email address data from.

On this step, you’ll see previous completions of the mini-course or collection. Make sure to choose a completion record that has name and email address data. Completion records that show null for these data will lead your automation to failure.

After choosing a completion record, click on continue with selected record.

If there are no previous completions for your content, a dummy record will be created using email address information samplelearner@email.com.

Choose Mailchimp for your action application.

Choose “Add/Update Subscriber” for your action event.

Connect your Mailchimp account or choose one from previously connected accounts.

Collect “Email” data from Mini Course Generator for the “Subscriber Email” box and complete your configuration.

Click on “Test step” to test your automation.

Go to your Mailchimp account to see if the test was a success.

If your test was successful, go back to Zapier, click on “Publish” to make your automation go live.

Great! Now you’ll see the email addresses of all learners that complete your content in your Mailchimp account.
